The Shanghai Ballet will recruit extra actors and actresses
at CITIC Square (1168 Nan Jing Xi Lu, Jing An District) from 10:00
to 22:00 on 29, 30 July (Saturday and Sunday). Applicants are welcome
to apply or enquire.
Ballet “A Sigh of Love” is a ballet about the old Shanghai’s
culture. In order to show the diversified cultural scenes in the
1930s-1940s’ Shanghai, the Shanghai Ballet is now recruiting
those who have some acting experience and are interested to perform
on stage. The roles open for recruitments are: three European men
and two European women, three Chinese Boys, one middle-aged Chinese
man, three strong-looking Chinese men and two thin Chinese men.
Applicants please bring one photo of themselves to CITIC Square.
The Eastday website (enjoy.eastday.com) will display photos of
all the candidates on Entertainment page for voting. The Choreographer
will make the first round selection and second round audition. The
voting result will act as reference for the choreographer to make
the final decision. Successful candidates will take part in rehearsals
in August and performances in early September. People who participate
in voting on Eastday website may have the chance to join in meeting
the creation staff of Ballet “In the Mood for Love”
and watch a live rehearsal. Applicants can find more about the ballet

As one of the cultural communication and friendship between China
and France, the ballet is supported by the Shanghai Grand Theatre
Arts Group and Association Francaise d’ Action Artistique
(AFAA). Artists from China and France have formed a strong creation
team: professor of Shanghai Theatre Academy Cao Lu Sheng is the
playwright; Mr. Bertrand d’At, Director of Ballet de L ‘Opera
National du Rhin, is the choreographer; the stage designer is the
renowned Jerome Kaplan, who also designed costumes for Ballet “Raise
The Red Latten”. Wu Si Yuan and Chen Gang are invited to be
art consultants.
The Shanghai Ballet started to rehearse Ballet “A Sigh of
Love” on June 28th, 2006 and the trail performance will be
staged on September 2nd at Shanghai Oriental Arts Center.
