October 1965, ballet The White-haired Girl premiered at Xu Hui Theater in Shanghai.

July 1972, The White-haired Girl made a successful tour in Japan. In September 1972, China and Japan established the diplomatic relationship. Therefore, the tour was of great significance and the dancers were regarded as "Ballet Diplomats".

February 1980, classical ballet Swan Lake premiered at Shanghai Majestic Theatre.

May 1980, in the 9th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture awarded Soul and Rose the Best Creation and Performance Prize, and Twin Butterflies and Celestial the Encouragement Award of Creation.

September 1981, in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Chinese Great Writer LU Xun, Shanghai Ballet staged its new creation Soul, Ah Q & Grief for Death. Its new creation The Thunderstorm & Soul, were awarded Best Creation and Acting Prize by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture.

May 1982, Shanghai Ballet staged Thunderstorm, Ah Q, and The Thousand and One Nights in the 10th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival.

May 1984, The Bench & Song of Youth were awarded the Best Creation and Acting Prizes by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture in the 11th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival.

May 1986, in the 12th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival, Meditation gained the Third Award in Creation and the Second Award in Acting; the newly choreographed production Coppelia won the honor of the Special Award and the Premier Award, WANG Qifeng won Acting Award; Revelation of Native-ness got the Second Award in Acting; Net won the Second Prize in Creation and the Third Award in Acting; Pond won the Third Award in Creation and the Second Award in Acting. In addition, Don Quixote, La Corsair and Allegro Brillante were performed at same time.

July 1986, Mr. JIANG Zemin watched the performance of Shanghai Ballet and congratulated the dancers on stage. In August the same year, he dedicated to Shanghai Ballet "Wish Shanghai Ballet perform successfully on the international stage".

March 1989, at the invitation of Roboter, a Canadian promoter, Shanghai Ballet made a 27-days-tour to Canada and gave nineteen shows of The White-haired Girl in six cities: Quebec, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Hamilton and Victoria. And during that time, Madam Francine Russell, director of America North West Pacific Ballet, watched the performances and highly praised The White-haired Girl as a perfect combination of contemporary story and classical techniques.

September 1989, in the 3rd China Art Festival, WANG Qifeng, XIN Lili, CAI Lijun, YANG Xinhua, SHI Hui, ZHANG Li, etc. took part in the Special Gala for the winners of international ballet competitions.

May 1990, Shanghai Ballet presented two shows of selected programs at Wan Ping Theatre on May 15th & 16th, during '90 Shanghai Art Festival.

October 5, 1990, at the invitation of New Zealand Mark Edgley Company, Shanghai Ballet made a tour to New Zealand for almost one month. During that time, the company gave 27 performances in eleven cities such as Wellington, Auckland, etc.

March 30 & April 9-10, 1992, in the second series of performances to commemorate the 50th anniversary of MAO Zedong's Speech in Yan'an Art Forum, Shanghai Ballet presented two gala shows with selected programs at Lyceum Theatre and Majestic Theatre respectively.

November 1992, in the 4th Shanghai Television Festival, seven dancers of Shanghai Ballet, who won awards in the international competitions, performed some selected programs from Swan Lake showing the strength of Shanghai Ballet.

June 18, 1993, WANG Qifeng and LI Chunyuan danced pas de deux Spring Water at the opening of the 15th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival.

March 22, 1994, XIN Lili and YANG Xinhua were invited to attend the opening gala of the Oscar (USA).

May 12-13, 1994, Shanghai Ballet presented a symphonic ballet Anecdote of Swan in the opening ceremony of '94 Shanghai Art Festival, which was held in Shanghai Swimming Stadium.

August 1994, Russian Version Romeo and Juliet was staged in the 4th China Art Festival, which was held in Lanzhou.

January 17 to 30, 1995, 78 members of Shanghai Ballet toured to Taiwan at the invitation of Hua Xing Group (China) and Taiwan Min Sheng Daily. There, the company gave eight shows of Don Quixote and Selected Programs.

September 26 to October 2, 1995, at the invitation of Norway Nenie-Onstad contemporary Art Center, SUN Xiaojun, ZHANG Weiying, etc. went to Norway and had an one week's cultural exchange activities. In the meantime, two dancers performed pas de deux Don Quixote and La Corsair. Besides, Sun Xiaojun showed a contemporary piece in the get-to-gather of Overseas Chinese Association.

October 23 to 25, 1995, Shanghai Ballet staged three shows of White-haired Girl at the Grand Theatre of Hong Kong Culture & Art Center.

June 27 to July 15, 1995, at the invitation of Indonesia Art Promotion Company, a party of 40 from Shanghai Ballet gave ten ballet shows in Indonesia.

May 16, 1995, in the dance series of the 16th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival, dancers of Shanghai Ballet played Four Little Swans and pas de deux Don Quixiote at Majestic Theatre. The music for this selected piece of Swan Lake was accompanied by panpipe for the first trial.

May 1996, Shanghai Ballet premiered Nutcracker on the opening of Shanghai International Art Festival, together with Matsuyama Ballet artists.

August 1996, WANG Kun, TIAN Hua, SHI Zhongqin, XIN Lili, QU Xiaoyi, who dance the role of Xi'er in The White-haired girl in different times, met in Beijing.

May 15 & 16, 1997, Shanghai Ballet staged a special program The Elegant Ballet Galaxy on the 17th Spring of Shanghai Art Festival.

November 5 & 6, 2000, in the 2nd China Shanghai International Art Festival, Shanghai Ballet held a ballet evening named as Gold Medal Gala at the Experimental Theatre in Shanghai Theatre Academy.

November 13 & 14, 2000, Shanghai Ballet presented two shows of White-haired Girl at Shanghai Grand Theatre for the 2nd China Shanghai International Art Festival.

March 2-12, 2001, invited by Australia International Multi-Culture Art Festival Committee and Australia Tenda International, a group of 61 members of Shanghai Ballet performed festival programs in Canberra, Brisbane and Golden Coast, etc.

In September 2001, at the invitation of Xin Jiang Urumchi Silk Road Garment Culture Committee and Xin Jiang Tian Di Group, Shanghai Ballet performed two shows of Swan Lake in Xin Jiang People's Hall.

Year 2001 and 2002, in the activity called "Love Our China- Ballet Tour", which was presented by Shanghai Tobacco Corporation, Shanghai Ballet staged Swan Lake and The Butterfly Lovers in Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Dalian, Hangzhou, Fuzhou and Nanjing, etc.

December 2001, Shanghai Ballet created and staged The Butterfly Lovers, which premiered on the Closing Ceremony of 3rd Shanghai International Art Festival.

From April 28 to May 18, 2002, in the 1st China Dance Festival, Shanghai Ballet performed pas de deux from Swan Lake (Act Two) and pas de deux Grand Pas Classique.

From September to November 2002, Shanghai Ballet made a nation-wide tour in USA and gave 46 shows of Coppelia and White-haired Girl, covering 41 towns and cities.



At the invitation of Project 21 Corporation, as one of the cultural exchange activities of 30th Anniversary of the Normalization of Relationship between China and Japan, a party of 74 people of Shanghai Ballet toured to Japan and staged two shows of Classical ballet Swan Lake (English National Ballet Version) at Tokyo Nakano Theatre on December 5 & 6, 2002.

April 2003, at the invitation of Dai Nationality Autonomous Region, Shanghai Ballet representing Shanghai Municipal Government went to Xishuangbanna, Yunnan and performed White-haired Girl to congratulate the 50th Anniversary of the Foundation of Autonomous Region.

August 2003, at the invitation of EuroArte Management, Shanghai Ballet staged six shows of Coppelia in Peralada Festival, Santander International Art Festival and Madrid Summer Art Festival.



September 2003, at the invitation of the president of North Korea, Kim Jong Il, Shanghai Ballet performed five shows of White-haired Girl in Pyongyang.

November 1978, Matsuyama Ballet visited Shanghai and performed in Shanghai. Shanghai Ballet learned Coppelia (Act Two) and pas de deux La Corsair, etc. from Japanese friends.

March 1979, Stevenson, director and artistic director of America Houston Ballet, visited our company, and rehearsed Swan Lake (Act Two) for Shanghai Ballet.

October 1980, William Martin Walcott, artist from Canada, was invited to teach classical ballet La Fille Mal Gardee and Les Sylphides, Napoli (Act III) and pas de deux from La Corsair, Esmeralda, Flower Festival, and Nutcracker.

October 1980, HU Rongrong was invited to join in the panel of judges of 2nd Japan International Ballet Competition in Osaka. She was the first Chinese judge in international ballet competitions after the foundation of PRC.

April 1981, Canadian artist, William Martin Walcott visited Shanghai Ballet for the second time, and taught Giselle, pas de deux Spring Water and pas de trios, etc.

August 1981, British artist Monica Park came and taught Paquita (part) and Concerto.

From March 1982 to November 1983, YU Qingyun and WU Guomin went to Belgium for further study at the Royal Flanders Ballet.

April 1982, Shanghai Ballet welcomed visiting Belgium Ballet.

June 1983, Royal Ballet of England visited Shanghai Ballet. Shanghai Ballet welcomed the guests.

May 1984, Shanghai Ballet gave a warm welcome to visiting Canadian National Ballet.

July 1984, French Ballet visited Shanghai Ballet and the guests received a warm welcome from the host.

April 1985, the Royal Danish Ballet was welcomed by Shanghai Ballet.

December 1985, Russian artistic Dalgush and Josten came and gave master classes to the dancers of Shanghai Ballet. Russian artists said, "The recent performance by Chinese dancers at 5th International Ballet Competition in Moscow was a surprise. Your dancers gave Moscow a great shock and we are sure that you have strong basis".

June 1986, Michael Joseph, Artist Director of Hartford Ballet, WANG Shaoben, ballet master, and Nancy Jordan, ballet mistress of New York Juliet Music School came to Shanghai Ballet and staged a program of American style£¬including some selected pieces of Odd Torsy, Reflection on the Water, Sacred Song, Tom Dollar, Romeo and Juliet.

July 1986, CAI Guoying went to Hong Kong to attend 1st Dance Forum.

September 1986, LIN Yangyang was invited to Australia Sydney Ballet to give lectures, rehearsals and other exchanging activities.

June 1987, MENG Jianhua (Chinese American), ballet artist, William Solo, resident chorographer of New York Dennis Ballet, and Nancy Tulsan, principle dancer & guest ballet mistress came to Shanghai Ballet and created and staged with CAI Guoying Universe, Crisscross and Rotation.

November 1987, arranged by the Ministry of Culture, China and the Sino-American Cultural Exchange Center, famous dance artist Francia Russell, director of USA North West Pacific Ballet, principal of Ballet School visited Shanghai Ballet and gave master classes, and other exchanging activities.

October 1987, at the invitation of New Zealand Royal Ballet, WANG Qifeng and YANG Xinhua went to New Zealand and performed Nutcracker as guest principal dancers.

October 1987, invited by Francia Russell, director of USA North West Pacific Ballet, CAI Lijun went to the company in Seattle USA and studied there.

November 1987, at the invitation of the director of Japan Matsuyama Ballet, SHI Zhongqin visited and studied in Mitsuyama Ballet for 3 months.

June 1989 and January 1990, invited by Hong Kong Ballet, YANG Xinhua visited Hong Kong twice and attended the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong Ballet.

December 1990, CAI Lijun was invited by Hong Kong Ballet to perform with the dancers there.

December 1990, at the invitation of Headmaster of Singapore Practical Art Institution, CAI Guoying, deputy director of Shanghai Ballet, went to Singapore for teaching.

September 1992, at the 20th anniversary of Normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, Japan Matsuyama Ballet came to Shanghai and performed Nutcracker.

August 1993, director general of Paris International Dance Competition, Mr.Cyrile Laffaurie, Mrs.Ghislaine Thesmar, Mr.Pierre Lacotte visited Shanghai Ballet, and at the same time Madam Thesmar gave a master class in Shanghai Ballet.

October 1993, Lord Parambo, president of British Art Committee, together with his wife visited Shanghai Ballet and watched performances of the dancers.

March 1994, a group of 3 persons from Stuttgart Ballet visited Shanghai Ballet aiming to enhance mutual cultural exchanges.

September 1999, Shanghai Ballet welcomed touring companies from Canada and Lyon France.

December 1999, Ass. Prof. Emil Dimitrov, the president of organizing committee of Varna International Ballet Competition, Bulgaria together with his secretary Ms. V. Nikolova visited Shanghai Ballet and watched dancers' class & rehearsal.

November 2000, Arthur Michelle and 4 partners from USA Harlem Ballet visited Shanghai Ballet. Michelle couched FAN Xiaofeng and SUN Shenyi pas de duex Grand Pas Classique. The American ballet masters gave classes to dancers of Shanghai Ballet.

August 2001, Derek Deane, the former artistic director of English National Ballet, was invited to couch and staged his version of Swan Lake, which premiered at the opening of Second Shanghai International Ballet Competition (2001).

April 2002, famous French choreographer Pierre Lacotte was invited to stage Paris Opera Version Copplia.

From April 7 to 28, French Association for Artistic Actions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France sent Mr. Lucien Duthoit, a ballet master, to Shanghai to give master classes in Shanghai Ballet.

June 2002, French choreographer Jean-Paul Gravier was invited to stage his new version of classical ballet La Sylphide.

July 2002, the artistic director of USA Cincinnati Ballet visited Shanghai Ballet and watched dancers' practice and rehearsal.

From March 8 to 29, 2003, French Association for Artistic Actions sent Mr. Eric Camillo, teacher of Paris Opera Ballet, to give master classes and coach dancers pas de deus.

March 2004, in order to prepare for 3rd Shanghai International Ballet Competition, Shanghai Ballet invited Mr. Ivan Favier, choreographer to create three pieces of modern dance for the competitors, and Mr. Eric Camillo, ballet master of Paris Opera Ballet to give master classes for daily training.

April 2004, Xin Lili was invited to be a jury member of Benoise de la Danse, which was held in Moscow, Russia.

April 2004, Shanghai Ballet welcomed visiting Kazakhstan Ballet.

June 2004, Mr. Derek Deane was again invited to coach English National Ballet Version Romeo and Juliet.
